About this speaker

Dr. Sarah Barrett grew up in Southwest Virginia and attended Virginia Tech for her undergraduate degree in Biology as well as her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and PhD in Immunology, with board-certification from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in 2014. After several years as faculty at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, she worked for Zoetis, Inc., before taking a break from the profession in favor of full-time lavender and rose farming. Sarah learned everything she knows aboutgrowing lavender from Ellen Reynolds and Beagle Ridge Herb Farm’s Lavender Academy in Wytheville, VA, and she learned the art of enfleurage from Charle-Pan Dawson at Cherry Valley Lilacs, in Cherry Valley, NY. She is particularly interested in the wide potential of lavender for value-added products, including distillation and co-distillation, products made from lavender or rose hydrolat, soapmaking, and enfleurage.
